My opionions and whatever other insane idea I think of

Here I go

Manners, I am so tired of unmannered people and children alike. After 12 yrs of working in the fast food business, I have seen the best and the worst. I am a firm believer that EVERYONE should have to work in food service for a min of 6 months to learn what we go through every day. I have had customers call one of my members a lesbian and other obscenities because she was new and had problems taking the order, toys returned because it didn't work "as well" as they thought it should. Scolded by children who thought they deserved a free something or other, food thrown at me, as well as people that eat all but the last bite of a sandwich and try to make me make them a new one because it wasn't made right (which it was, and he ate all but a half inch of it), eat all but 5 of a 20 piece nugget then return them saying their moldy (dork used a Blue marker). The best I think was all the time some idiot thought that their fries should still be hot and fresh after they sat on their tray for 20 min (in the lobby with them, totally not the crews fault). I have almost been punched a few times for no reason other than the person was having a bad day, been sexual harassed and cleaned up the most horrendous messes (no detail, I would get sick again just typing it).

Where do these people learn this from? Why do some people thing that just because you make 5.15 an hour, that person is "beneath" you and deserving of anger and disgust. If it wasn't for those minimum wage earners, there would be NO fast food at all. And who would get sued for making the youth fat, definitely not the parents that let their kids eat there, or the schools that have fast food restaurants built into the school campus. Where would poor college kids eat or work at?

The teenagers work fast food for job experience, and extra cash (remember 1 in 8 persons in the US have worked at McDonald's, I don't know what it is for all FF is) Elderly work there to supplement their retirement, and every age in between work there for various reasons, it can be a good paying career.

So next time you pickup supper for your family, thank your server, and teach your kids to thank them also. Manners don't stop with friends and family. Thank those employees at any store your in. They will be much happier because of you, and your child will learn from that too.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

People who work in customer service take so much abuse, especially those working in lower paid, high stress jobs like cashiers and food servers. My husband and I have two young boys, and we have worked very hard to teach them to be polite and express gratitude to those who serve them. My boys thank the waiter for refilling their soda and bringing their chicken nuggets to the table.

I have worked in customer service in the past (manager/photographer for a portrait studio . . . yikes!) and I know firsthand the insults, the degrading treatment, and general disdain that workers who serve others receive. Some of the rude behavior and comments from customers appalled me.

Why do some people thing that just because you make 5.15 an hour, that person is "benith" you and deserving of anger and disgust. If it wasn't for those minimum wage earners, there would be NO fast food at all.

You really hit it dead on there.

While I do believe that anyone working in a customer service position should realize that it is his/her job to be pleasant and provide excellent, prompt, and friendly service to the customer, regardless of the low pay or crummy working conditions, the street really does run both ways. Consumers must realize that the clerk, cashier, etc. is providing a needed service for them and is a human being deserving of respect and kindness. I learned long ago that a smile, a bit of understanding, and a kind word on my end gets me fresher fries and a bit better haircut and a waitress that keeps my glass of water filled to the top.

Bless you, msladydeath, for putting up with the crap that you do.

Excellent article.

Thank you, but my dad is the one that is deserving, he has been doing it for 30 yrs, he's been General Manager for almost 27 yrs (I think, it was when I was born but I can't remember) I just couldn't hack it anymore, I had a customer try to jump the counter and fight me over a double quarter pounder that he wanted refunded after eating it. I'm thankful for walmart securtiy, let me tell ya.

It's as if they live in a primitive world where the caste system is still in place.
